Beyond blue
This Australian-based site is aimed at people of all ages and professions. There are lots of resources including fact sheets and an interactive self assessment. Advice on how to communicate with doctors and on the effectiveness, the lack of effectiveness in many cases, of self help remedies is provided. While the resource will be particularly helpful to people in Australia-lists of qualified medical practitioners are given, it may help mental health activists in Ireland and the UK argue for similar governmental level help for people with stress-related problems. http://www.beyondblue.org.au/
Students Against Depression
This is a UK-based site. It is a comprehensive and authoritative reference source on depression. Information on diagnosis, self help, where to go to get help, case studies, contact telephone numbers is provided. Students have had a significant input to both site design and content and it should be a useful resource for young people with problems. Note emergency contact information is available. Perhaps one of the best self help websites?
