Susan

Thank you for using the forum. This is not a medical resource and I am not medically qualified so I am limited in what I can say.

Firstly components present in a number of foods can influence oestrogen concentrations in the body. However, gut microorganisms may also have an effect on estrogen levels so food is only one of a number of factors involved. Hence you may need to put food and oestrogen in context. This is where your GP may be able to help.

There is very good information on this topic on the Internet but there is also much that is not correct or is misleading-so be careful. I recommend that you discuss your concerns with your GP.

There are several good textbooks dealing with food drug interactions that you might buy- search Amazon for example. Armed with the information from one of these academic texts you might be in a better position to talk more authoritatively to your GP.

Google scholar may also help you follow up on points of interest.

Grapefruit, including the fresh fruit and its juice or processed juice contains a number of substances that inhibit oestrogen breakdown in the liver. If you are interested in reducing oestrogen levels and regularly eat grapefruit you may wish to explore this area further using Google scholar.

I regret that I must close this topic now. I wish you well and hope that this limited information is of some value.
