Hi

Could you point me to some references on prions? Heat etc.

I am recommending two references to get you started:

1. Blanchfield, J.R. 1998. Bovine spongiform encephalopathy (BSE)—a review. Int. J. Food Sd. Technol. 33:81-97.
2. Thomas Raul Appel, Michael Wolff, Friedrich von Rheinbaben, Michael Heinzeland Detlev Riesner. (2001) Journal of General Virology.  82, 465-473.

The latter reference provides a good overview of the heat resistance of 'prions' (there are different types) and also makes reference to the regulatory requirements within the EU e.g. autoclaving at 133 °C for 20 min for a prion inactivation factor  of 108.
