Hi! Back again.
 
We need to turn pile of Brit Zs to US units. 10C is 50F! Something wrong

Welcome back and thanks for posting in the forum.
You want to convert a z-value in Celsius to a z-value in Fahrenheit? I presume that you have converted say 10° C to 50° F? This is probably where you are going wrong. You cannot convert z-values in the normal way you convert from one temperature measurement system to another. In your case you need to convert a change in the number of Celsius degrees to Fahrenheit degrees by multiplying by 9/5. I have attached a screen shot of how to do this very simple calculation using a spreadsheet.

Z-value can be defined in several ways e.g. the number of degrees Fahrenheit or Centigrade (Celsius) required for a thermal death time curve to traverse 1 log cycle. Note it is the number of degrees in the appropriate temperature scale that is required rather than the actual temperature. The 9/5 is an adaption of the normal equation for converting F to C.
