Are you an omnivore? Or are you a vegetarian strictly on animal welfare grounds? Would you consider eating cultured meat (meat grown in the lab)? Is an animal flesh product that has never been part of a complete, living animal more ethical? My friend, Michael Brogan, is doing a survey on the subject for his thesis in Culinary Arts, it takes less than 5 mins if you'd like to ponder the question. -Rob Dunlop

Please consider taking part in this survey, your opinion is important and your participation would be greatly appreciated

I applaud your use of social media and Survey Monkey for your thesis. Please post your findings when you have completed your study.

Best wishes!

Mikeb42 I have removed the copy of this post to avoid duplicates. To encourage people to post I have commented on your survey and provided a general reference to the topic in the http://www.dairyscience.info/index.php/site-news.html - news section  of this website.

Please note my comments on faith groups. You might consider adding some extra questions.

Have you considered how you might response to the likely skewed' age profile you might get?

Hi Michael,

Unfortunetly I cannot add questions at this time without deleting the collected responces, although I am interested to hear what suggestions you have as I may continue on to do a masters. Skewed age profile? Could you elebrorate?

A few thoughts.

Some people might expect that your sampling methodology might not give you a sample representative of the 'meat' buying and or meat eating population.
Are there inherent survey design faults? If so can you compliment your methodology with say the use of a focus group?

Just because you have questions to enable you to filter responses on the basis of e.g. age does not mean that you have taken this into account!  Is there an official age limit on who can use social media, if so might this influence your access to say children? How might you access older people who have significant buying power?

Interviews and focus groups were carried out at the beginning of the research with a wide range of age groups to inform the questionnaire.

I'm considering adults only but making attempts to reach as wide a population as possible within the constraints of the thesis. I may also look at controlling for age statistically.

Thanks for all the feedback
Kind regards.

Hello again

You have managed to attract quite a lot of post-readers after such a short period of time. Any change of providing a little feedback on your survey finds so far?

Regards

I will be closing the survey and writing up my analysis soon. It would be a pleasure to share the results here, won't be long, at 826 responses, was going to wait for 1000 but time is running short. I will begin the analysis this weekend.

Thank you for posting your results.

I have limited Internet Access at present back home on the 8th April so have only had a quick look at your results. very interesting

An initial question, can you filter the results so that you can look at the responses from say vegans only, vegatarians only and the combined group?

Yes If there is anything specific you would like to see i'd have no problem creating a crosstab and posting it here. Smile

The thesis will be complete by the 8th if you would like to see it in its entirety?

Sorry for delay in responding. Limited Internet access until the 8th.
Please consider writing a brief paper based on your thesis. Happy to include it on site. That way you and your supervisior get recognition for your work.
Mike
