DSFT Consultancy associates- Ian Mullan, BSc (Honours), MSc
Ian joined DSFT as an associate in 2017. Ian has over 12 years’ experience in the Northern Ireland Food industry with knowledge gained across animal proteins, bakery, beverage and organic vegetable sectors. He is skilled in the application of lean manufacture techniques, goods distribution and supply chain logistics. With his extensive knowledge of food manufacture methods and quality assurance and proven track record of managing departments, achieving operational targets and leading high performance teams he will enhance the knowledge and skills base of DSFT.
Ian started his career with organically produced health food products. He then moved into sales in the red meat industry followed by large scale production and quality control of alcoholic drinks. He began his management career in the distribution of chilled and frozen goods to the European market. He returned to manufacturing in production and high temperature processing of bakery goods. His most recent role has been technical and site operations management for a chilled and frozen retail packs protein company.
Ian holds s a Master’s degree in strategic management and marketing. His Master’s thesis was on an innovative method of determining the importance of food product attributes to consumers. His research utilised conjoint analysis and orthogonal modelling.
With a BSc Hons in Food Science & Nutrition from Queens University of Belfast he has a strong technical background.
Ian also holds an Advanced Diploma in management practice from Ulster University’s School of business.
Ian has a wide range of expertise with experience in large scale manufacturing, international distribution, quality assurance, HACCP development, quality systems, operations management, change implementation and organisational restructuring. Business improvement techniques including 6 sigma methodologies and data analysis
Ian’s primary areas of responsibility are:
- Improving business performance through the application of lean manufacture principles and cost reduction strategies
- Food product manufacture and supply chain management
- HACCP Quality system development and validation
