We were delighted to meet Dr Giuseppe Aprea at CAFRE's Loughry Campus recently. Giuseppe Aprea is a researcher at the Istituto G. Caporale in Teramo, Italy. One of his research projects involves the use of phages to control the growth of Listeria monocytogenes in foods. The control of L. monocytogenes is somewhat controversial in that low levels of this pathogen are permitted even in foods in which it would be expected to grow.

I was pleased to give him my extensive collection of lactococci and their phages and look forward to seeing the results of the genetic studies that he has planned.
