ORIGINAL DAIRY SCIENCE AND FOOD TECHNOLOGY CALCULATOR FOR PREDICTING THE GRADE VALUE OF CHEDDAR CHEESE

The underpinning science behind the cheese-grade-calculator has been discussed in the section "Modelling the grade value of Cheddar Cheese". This model developed by Giles and Lawrence (1973) is one of several that have been developed.

This calculator uses simple logic statements to determine grade value. I have rewritten the calculator to make it easier to use. The revised calculator can be accessed here.

Calculator for predicting grade value of Cheddar cheese
Cheese Quality Based on Range of Variable Values   PREDICTED GRADE OF CHEDDAR CHEESE
Variable Premium Grade Graded   PREMIUM GRADED NOT GRADED
  S/M   FALSE FALSE TRUE

  MNFS
To determine the predicted grade value, insert
pH   the S/M, pH, FDM and MNFS into the input
table below on the left. The predicted grade value
FDM   will be given as True in the table above. You can
investigate the effect of changing  the values for the
model variables in the table in the top left.
Input Your S/M, MNFS, pH and FDM data below
